AFCAT Exam Syllabus

AFCAT syllabus has been prescribed by Indian Air Force (IAF). The syllabus highlights the topics under each section which candidates need to prepare to ace the exam. The first and foremost step towards exam preparation is understanding AFCAT syllabus. Knowing the syllabus, candidates will be able to plan their preparation strategy for the exam. The standard of questions in Numerical Ability will be of matriculation level. The standard of questions in other subjects will be of graduation level.

AFCAT is an entrance test conducted for aspirants who want to join Indian Air Force as Commissioned Officer in Flying, Ground Duty (Technical) and Ground Duty (Non-Technical). Indian citizens, having minimum 60% marks in Physics and Mathematics each in 10+2 are eligible to register for the Air Force examination.

AFCAT Exam Pattern:

  • The question paper will be available in English language only.
  • Duration of the exam will be of 2 hours (120 minutes).
  • The total number of questions asked in the exam will be 100.
  • Correct answer: +3 marks and Incorrect answer: – 1 mark.
  • No marks will be deducted for un-attempted questions.

 

AFCAT contains 4 Sections: General Awareness, Verbal Ability in English, Numerical Ability and Reasoning and Military Aptitude Test

A. General Awareness: For this topic students must know about the current events. It is mandatory for the students to keep themselves updated with the current affairs. The main topics asked in this section are given below:

  • Sports
  • Geography
  • Environment
  • Culture
  • Defense
  • Art and Culture
  • International Current Affairs
  • Politics
  • Civics
  • Basic Science

 

B. Verbal Ability in English: For this topic students must know about Vocabulary, Grammar and Verbal Ability of the applicants will be evaluated. The important topics of this section are given below:

  • Comprehension
  • Fill in the blank by choosing the appropriate word
  • Error Detection
  • Sentence Completion
  • Synonyms and Antonyms
  • Testing of Vocabulary
  • Tenses
  • Basic Grammar
  • Idioms and Phrases

 

C. Numerical Ability: For this topic students must know ability to solve numerical problems with speed and accuracy. For scoring well in this section, students must have a good understanding of Basic Mathematical concepts. The important topics of this section are as follows:

  • Decimal Fraction
  • Time and Work
  • Simple Interest
  • Average
  • Ratio and Proportion
  • Profit and Loss
  • Percentage
  • Time and Distance

 

D. Reasoning and Military Aptitude Test: The questions in this section based on the diagrams, figures, charts, tables as analogies and reasoning. Questions in this section are asked from the syllabus which is listed below:

  • Missing Character
  • Seta Based on Arrangements
