Every year, apart from a number of professionals courses, lakhs of candidates prepare for Indian Civil Services Examinations. These examinations are gate way to various prestigious positions in several government departments such Administration, Police, Income Tax, Forest, Railway, Health, and others.

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) is a central body that is responsible for conducting various civil examination for Civil Services in the country. Part XIV - Services Under the Union and the states - article no. 315 to 323 of Indian Constitution describes the role of Public Service Commission for the union and a Public Service Commission for each state.

The commission is engaged in executing various tasks such as rcruitment to services & posts under both, Union and State; Advising the Government on various issues and concerns related to examinations' rules, regulations and others; and controlling various disciplinary cases for the examinations and appointments.

The civil services can are divided into three categories such as All India Services, Central Services and State Services.
