Selection Process: The candidates have to go through Written examination & Personality test. Selection will be based on written test & personality test. The duration of written test will be 2 hours.

 

UPSC Combined Geo-Scientist Exam Pattern:

Part-I – Written Examination: There will be written examination of total 1000 marks. It will be divided in to 2 parts (i) Preliminary examination & (ii) Main examination. Details of both examination as following.

 

# Preliminary Examination: There will be preliminary examination of 400 marks. It will be divided in to 2 subjects. Each stream will have carry different subjects.
There will be objective type of paper.
The duration of examination will be 2 hours.
There will be negative marking of 1/3 mark for every wrong answer.
The candidate are not permitted to use the calculator for answering in the paper.
The paper will be set in English & Hindi language only.

 

# UPSC Geo-Scientist Syllabus: Pattern for preliminary exam for each stream as following:

Stream-I : Geologist & Jr. Hydro-geologist

Subjects Duration Max. Marks
Paper-I : General Studies 2 hours 100 marks
Paper-II : Geology/ Hydro-geology 2 hours 300 marks
Total 400 marks

Stream-II : Geophysicist

Subjects Duration Max. Marks
Paper-I : General Studies 2 hours 100 marks
Paper-II : Geophysics 2 hours 300 marks
Total 400 marks

Stream-III : Chemist

Subjects Duration Max. Marks
Paper-I : General Studies 2 hours 100 marks
Paper-II : Chemistry 2 hours 300 marks
Total 400 marks

 

# Main written examination

There will be main written examination of 600 marks. It will be divided in to 3 subjects for each stream.

  • There will be conventional type of paper for each stream.
  • The duration of main examination will be 3 hours.
  • The question will be set in English language only.

# Part-II – Personality Test
There will be personality test of 200 marks. The candidate who qualifying in the main written examination will be invited for personality test. The object of the interview will be to assess the suitability for the post(s) of Geologist, Geophysicist, Chemist and Jr. Hydro-geologist. Special attention will be paid in the Personality Test to assessing the candidate’s capacity for leadership, initiative and intellectual curiosity, tact and other social qualities, mental and physical energy powers of practical application, integrity of character and aptitude for adapting themselves to the field life.
