IELTS Listening is divided into four sections. Section 1 & 2 conversations are on Social needs, whereas Section 3 & 4 conversations are education-related. Each conversation will be of 3 mins and can be both monologues and dialogues. Questions asked can be multiple-choice, short answer, note completion, sentence completion, etc. There will be 40 questions, and 30 min will be given.

The whole process of IELTS listening covers a total of 4 sections.

  1. In section 1, there will be a conversation on everyday social topics between 2 people.
  2. In section 2, the recording will be a long speech on everyday social events.
  3. In Section 3, there will be a conversation between 4 people. The discussion will be related to education and training.
  4. In Section 4, the final recording will be a long speech on an Academic subject.
  5. Candidates are required to listen to all four recordings very carefully. The test will be all about how well you understand the information or ideas behind the recordings.
